Beautiful antique French travelers desk circa the late 1700s. This velvet-covered travelers folder is lined with moire fabrics on the inside. It has a faded purple cover, which is now burgundy, with an inlaid cross-stitched hunting motif. There are two folder compartments on the inside front cover. The back has a gilt-framed day of the week calendar. At one time, there was paper between the two pink papers and a writing instrument, which was held in place with the leather tab, which is still intact on the back. The back is a beautiful purple velvet which was probably the original color for the front. The front has long since faded, most likely due to sunlight. There is also a stain on the front where, at one time, a drink was spilled. This is an exquisite piece of history to use, but with the stitchwork, it could also be framed. The piece measures 12.25" x 8.75" and is empty; it is almost .50" thick.
