Beautiful glass wax seal stamp. This type of wax seal is called a "Tassie Gem" after it's Scottish creator, James Tassie, and his nephew, William Tassie, who developed a method to mold engraved intaglios into glass gems. These wax seals were popular throughout the first half of the 19th century and are highly collectable today. This seal is just beautiful with the Latin inscription "UBI MEL IBI APES" on it. Translated this means "where [there is] honey, there [are] bees". Similar to "you catch more bees with honey than with vinegar". This seal measures 1.25" wide x .5" tall and sit .40" high. It is a stunning piece of history.
