Antique French First Communion canivet card. This is a darling 1800s paper, lace, and chromo antique First Communion card dating to the 1800s. A French canivet card is a holy card that is cut into a lacy pattern using a knife, creating a design similar to a paper snowflake. The word "canivet" translates to "small knife" in French. This particular canivet is for the first communion. The dress is made of silk, and so is the veil. There is a cream cotton bow in the center. The candle and hands are missing, and there is damage to the lace over the right shoulder, but this is still a magnificent piece that can be repaired. The veil that covers the dress is made of thin lace and there is greenery along the bottom of the dress.
