A magnificent and RARE antique French flag holder dating to the late 1800's - early 1900s. The large wooden wall hanging has been created in the form of a shield. The front has been hand-painted and decorated with the colours and symbols of the French republic.
The back side has openings to hold a total of 5 large flags. Originally, the flag holder would have decorated the entrance to a French town hall or government building.

Overall this piece is in wonderful condition given it's age and the fact that is was used outside in all kinds of weather. The wooden wall hanging shows signs of age and wear. There is a crack on the front with a small piece of wood missing and there is wear to the wood in places.
