This Sacred Heart ex-voto reliquary was very popular during the late 1800s. It was fashioned to be placed in a home, either in a devotional corner or near the bedside. The oval frame and metal backing are trademarks of this type of relic
This large piece measures 5" x 3.75" x .5". It is a solid piece with a beautiful brass frame. The back is black, and the front has the original glass. Beneath the glass window is a beautiful silk flaming Sacred Heart. There is a fabric applique (with gilt threads) "crowned M" at the center. Beneath the heart is an applique of shimmering fabric rays (gilt threads). A beautiful frame fabric applique (gilt threads) and vines surround the heart along the inside of the frame. A large ring is at the top for threading or hanging a ribbon.
It is in very excellent antique condition: the design is intact, the colors of the fabrics are still brilliant, and the glass has no chips or cracks.
