Beautifully and RARE 1800's Victorian motto letter seal "FOR AULD LANG SYNE". I have seen a lot of seals in my time but never one like this. A rare beauty indeed. This seal is brass, amethyst and features a lovely ivory handle. The motto, "FOR AULD LANG SYNE" in the middle adds a touch of sentimental charm to this piece which dates back to the 1850s. This antique early Victorian small desk seal features a beautiful amethyst stone surrounded by a brass lip. The seal is approximately 1.8" long and about .35" in diameter. The mother of pearl handle is in fabulous condition only needing to be cleaned. The overall condition of this seal is wonderful given its age of almost 175 years.
The lyrics of “Auld Lang Syne” are in the Scots language. The title, translated literally into standard English, is Old Long Since. The words can be interpreted as since long ago or for old times' sake.
