A vintage French spa water glass in the original carrying case. Used to drink the healing waters at "Chatel Guyan" in France. The cup is etched "Chatel Guyon" on one side and has measurements on the other. It is in very good condition.
The straw travel bag is beautifully crafted with leather and brass hardware. The basket measures 4.75" tall and 3" wide. I always think these would make great little purses. The glass is nice and thick and measures 4." tall. The glass features one side with measurements and the other with the name of the spa town (in this case Châtel Guyon) in the prettiest vintage font.
This piece was found in Provence. I loved learning about the history of it! In the 1800's, these glasses were carried around by tourists in famous French spa towns (such as Vichy, Capvern les Bains, and Châtel Guyon) and used to fill with the “curing” thermal waters of the area. Visiting a spa with natural mineral waters was popular with the high society members. Drinking the healing waters several times a day was thought to be invigorating and good for one's health.
